6 weeks later

To the day. 6 weeks ago I had my induction at the gym on the Saturday (it was a nightmare - I amost fainted and the inductor wasn't very nice and a bit like "oh god not another idiot with a new years resolution who won't last 2 weeks" but anyway, on the Sunday I went for my first body pump class. I was pretty impressed - I had an induction with a lady called Jane who told me at the end she used to be bigger than me.

Then she ran the class and was brilliant, very good at leading with clear instructions. I loved it and have been going 3 - 4 times every week for the last 6 weeks. After each class I do something extra, either walk on the treadmill (today I actually jogged for the first time in my adult life) or swim.

I've signed up for swimming lessons which start in a couple of weeks time for a 12 week course. I can swim but these are adult improver classes - its to remind me how to breathe etc when swimming - its been years since I was swimming and as a kid I was very very good at it. I used to swim sponsored swims and the like. Its amazing how one forgets how to do something.

In January I started "dieting" or rather, changing my lifestyle and cooking proper food instead of pissing around with ready meals or processed crap. I now only use fresh ingredients or tins of foods that have no added sugars etc.

I now read food labels as a hobby LOL

I use a website called Cook Yourself Thin and I also now have started using a site called Weight Loss Resources these both have food diaries but WLR has more, it has exercise diaries and various articles and tools for use in weight loss / maintaining weight.

I weigh in every Friday morning and I am very happy to say, 10 weeks after starting to change my eating habits and my relationship overall with food, I have lost 14lbs (1 whole stone). For the last 6 weeks its been slow but that was to be expected. Our bodies need 6 weeks to get used to exercise so until they are used to it they hold onto water and fats. Yes they let some go but they really hold on in case you stop. When our bodies realise we are serious about this exercise lark they start to let go, they stop being panicked into thinking "I need to keep this in case of emergency" and realise that we are putting fuel in to help expend energy.

I have a very very long way to go, but I am SO happy that my first goal has been reached. I'm here, 1 goal down 9 more to go!

Yay!! I'm so glad you've given us an update!

And don't forget, re the weight loss, you're likely losing inches moreso than weight (replacing fat with muscle weight; muscles are smaller).

I'm so proud of you! You inspired ME to do the same thing, you know!

You sound so incredibly positive, which is a world away from the conversation that we had at the Socktopus launch last year - I am very happy for you!

Keep it up, I am glad that all of your hard work and determination is paying off!
