Well here we are, 28 weeks later and I don't look like a mad rabid zombie desperate to eat! My weight has gone down, up, stayed the same week in week out. I've been at war with the bulge!
I've yet to see "28 weeks later" the film. I've seen "28 days later" and thought it was a fairly amusing zombie romp. In the 28 weeks that have passed, my world has changed vastly.
Last weekend I popped into Marks & Spencer with my mother. We had gone to look for furniture but the shop she wanted to look in was closed on Sunday. We were at a loose end so went to Savacentre where they have recently put an M&S next to Sainsbury. The sale was on. We popped in and I spotted a rather nice Autograph line top. It was in a lovely deep blue, somewhere between midnight and petrol blue. It had cut out flower detailing around a slashed neck opening and little silk tie sash.
It was a size 16. Mum suggested I try it on. I snorted at the idea and said "you are nuts I'm not gonna fit into size 16 yet!" She held it up against me and said "yes you will." So I tried it on. I also tried on a pair of size 14 jeans for a laugh (traditionally my top half has always been bigger than my bottom half) which didn't fit at all, but surprisingly they did go over my hips. So I slid into size 16 jeans that were not stretch denim, and to my surprise they did up wihout vast amounts of sucking the apple shaped belly in.
Next came the turn of the top to be tried on. I held it up and just thought "I love this top - if it doesn't fit I will likely weep as there isn't one in an 18 out there" I was also feeling fragile and didn't need a top to not fit me in a changing room - it is humiliating enough just being me already without adding the defeat of trying to fit into something that just won't fit.
To my absolute surprise it fitted! And it looked pretty good! There was no huge bulging belly creating a massive muffin top explosion over the top of the jeans to be highlighted by an ill fitting but baggy top. I actually had some shape, and the colour! Oh the colour of that top.. I love that colour so much. I used to have something similar in colour years ago that I loved and cherished and wore till it fell to pieces.
Anyway so last Monday, I got into the jeans and the top and wore them to work. I looked pretty slick even if I say so myself. Not one person commented *laugh* People are ultimately so unobservant, and I realise now that unless you actually blow your own trumpet they just don't notice. Unless they haven't seen you for aaaagggess (like 28 weeks) then they go "wow you lost a ton of weight since I last saw you."
I've never really been one for blowing my own trumpet, I guess I've been brought up to think that kind of behaviour is vulgar and show offy. So since this is the year of change, I'm going to break the mould and trumpet my triumph over the bulge (though I have won many battles on a weekly basis the war is far from over!).
