The day started with each of us choosing our spindle from the lovely jug on the table. A choice of Cherrywood or Mahogany - my choice was the Mahogany.

We started the class learning about roving and tops, and then we moved very quickly on to starting to spin.
Much fun ensued while we all concentrated following Diane's instruction, until Diane proclaimed "Alice! We have yarn!" and Alice came into the room to see our efforts and take some pictures!
A break for lunch, before moving on to learning about and plying the yarn we had managed to spin.
Three hours after arriving we had all spun and plied our first efforts with drop spindles. It felt great and very different to wheel spinning. The entire process was so different to my day a couple of years ago in deepest darkest Kent, where I learned about choosing the right bit of the fleece etc.
I much prefer Diane's approach which makes one feel that one can achieve what one wants without saying that one must know everything about a fleece before you spin it. Yes it is good to know, but you don't have to know immediately!
So this evening, sitting at home I've already started my homework from Diane. I also bought some pre-dyed tops so here is the before, during and after of Spinning with a drop spindle:

I'm so glad you had fun :-) It was a great class. Sneaky taking pictures of me when I'm not looking though!
