Patience is a virtue

And a virtue I'm quite surprised to find I have! Warhammer Online Age of Reckoning went live with Open Beta yesterday. I pre-ordered the game so I'd get access to both the open beta and the head start.

The game goes live on 18th.

Unfortunately we have decided to stick to the Euro servers and they are run by GOA. GOA are not well known for their smooth starts after the poor launch of DAoC and also the hacking of game servers in Shadowbane Europe.

The registration process was to go live at 8:30am CET yesterday morning. I considered setting my alarm and getting up early but decided that it wasn't that vital to be up that early on a Sunday. Besides I had a class to get to later in the morning at getting up at 7:30am BST felt like it would be stupid O'clock. I could register later before I went to my class.

Of course they had many many issues and everything was shut down so there was no chance of registration.

Apparently during the day, while I had my class, on and off people issued death thrats to GOA employees and generally vented their frustration on message boards.

Four years ago I might have been a venter but never a death threatener. Actually four years ago I WOULD have been a venter. A very vocal venter at my anger at the incompetancy of the whole affair.

Today, however, I'm a calmer person and not so desperate to join in the online world of escapism into a computer game. I ponder today if that means my usual addiction has waned and I am no longer a gaming addict.

Give me a week or two, after the official launch date and once I'm in the game playing it and I'll let you know if I have returned to being a pasty faced, red eyed gamer.

I really don't wan't that. I really don't want to return to that world, that is where I put the weight on. Sitting around gaming and stuffing my face, raiding till stupid O'clock in the morning while playing on US servers in order to keep up with my guild mates. Falling asleep at my desk the day after because I just wasn't getting sleep.

I like who I am now, I much prefer the exercising, carrying less weight, and the patience I seem to have gained after returning to my fiber arts.

Take yer time GOA / Mythic. It's all good. Fix the issues and I'll see you in game... eventually ;)
